Scholarship for International Student Awarded

The single biggest university in the London area, London Metropolitan University (London Met) boasts of over 30,000 students hailing from 115 countries. This prestigious British university has recently given a full scholarship to an undergraduate Pharmacology student from Sri Lanka, Kalindu Perera. 19-year old Perera is the first full London Met scholarship recipient from Sri Lanka. The London Met gets more than 1500 scholarship applications annually. Of these, around 40 are awarded scholarships for postgraduate level work. However, only three full undergraduate scholarships are awarded. Understandably, this scholarship is the most competetitive. It includes the full cost of study and covers tuition and housing costs. London Metropolitan University chief proposes student transfer to Oxbridge

London Metropolitan University boss, Professor Malcolm Gillies has a vision: allowing less advantaged students a taste of elite educational institutions. To these ends, Professor Gillies has proposed a student exchange program between London Metropolitan University and top universities like Cambridge and Oxford. The program is intended to last one year so students can spend their second or third year at one of Britain’s top universities. As for the benefit to elite institutions’ students spending a year at Metropolitan University, Professor Gillies said “[t]hey’ll learn quite a lot about what contemporary Britain is about.”
